What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. They're used to remember information between visits — like your login state or preferences. We also use similar technologies (local storage, session storage) in our mobile app.
The short version
Tapelog uses cookies and local storage for two things: keeping you logged in, and remembering your in-app preferences (like your theme choice). We use no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking. We use minimal analytics that don't identify you personally.
Cookies we use
| Name | Type | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supabase authentication JWT. Keeps you signed in to your Tapelog account. | 1 hour (auto-refreshed) | ||
| Supabase refresh token. Used to silently renew your session without re-logging in. | 60 days | ||
| Stores your theme preference (light / dark / system) so it persists between sessions. | Persistent | ||
| Remembers whether you've completed the onboarding flow so you're not shown it again. | Persistent | ||
| Local cache of your recording metadata, scoped to your user ID. Synced with Supabase on sign-in. | Until cache cleared | ||
| Privacy-friendly analytics (Plausible). Counts page views without tracking individuals or setting persistent identifiers. No personal data collected. | Session only |
What we don't use
- No advertising or retargeting cookies
- No Facebook Pixel, Google Ads, or similar ad trackers
- No cross-site tracking of any kind
- No cookies from social media platforms
- No behavioural profiling
Mobile app
The Tapelog mobile app uses AsyncStorage (React Native's equivalent of cookies) rather than browser cookies. The same categories apply — essential auth tokens, functional preferences, and a minimal analytics event. No advertising identifiers are ever collected.
Third-party services
We use Supabase for auth and database, which sets the session cookies listed above. We use Plausible Analytics for privacy-friendly website analytics — it doesn't use persistent cookies or collect personal data. See Plausible's privacy policy for details.
How to control cookies
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling essential cookies will break authentication — you won't be able to stay signed in.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if we add new cookies or change how we use existing ones. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notice.
